Radiation Therapy

Radiation Therapy

Radiation therapy for breast cancer has evolved considerably in the last few years.

Traditionally, women who had breast conservation surgery, or a lumpectomy, and women with lymph node involvement received more than 30 treatments. However, now half as many treatments are possible for women with favorable breast cancers. Many older women will not require radiation treatment.

Your radiation oncology team spends time aligning the treatments with a CT scanner, followed by one week of planning. After the planning, they will perform a simulation to make sure the radiation aligns well.
